The revelation of Bahá’u’lláh confirms that the purpose of our life is to know God and to attain His presence. Our true identity is our rational soul, whose free will and capacity for understanding enable us continually to improve ourselves and our society. To walk in the path of service to God and to humankind gives life meaning and prepares us for that moment when the soul separates from the body and continues its eternal journey toward its Creator.

Nothing is created without its particular purpose, for every being has an inherent station of perfection. The exalted Teachers desire that humankind be educated so as to attain the highest degree of its own reality, for deprivation of it is the station of loss. Human beings are in need of the illumination of the Holy Spirit. When we come to the realm of man, we find that his kingdom is clothed in a glorious sovereignty. In comparison with the animal, the perfections and imperfections of man are superior. Yet, if a person is content to remain in a state of non-progress, then—considered in light of his capacity—he is the lowest of creatures. If, however, he attains his inheritance through exalted wisdom, then he becomes a polished mirror in which the beauty of God is reflected; he acquires eternal life and becomes a partaker of the Sun of Reality. This shows how numerous are the degrees of human perfection.

The purpose of the Prophets of God is to raise humankind to the level of awareness of the powers latent within it and to illumine it with the light of the Kingdom—to transform ignorance into wisdom, injustice into justice, error into knowledge, cruelty into love, and incapacity into progress. In brief, their aim is to cause all the perfections of existence to shine forth within man.
